Wound Floor (Kindle Edition)

Wound Floor
Wound Floor (Kindle Edition)
By Mark Chiesa

Review & Description

“Kids get ice cream in the hospital.
I got a lot of Carnation Instant Breakfast, raspberry sherbet and a staph infection.”

What was supposed to be a hike up the East Coast raising money for medical research ends up being months in and out of the hospital for Chiesa. He gets by on the Wound Floor taking heavy doses of morphine (something he’ll almost comically learn to regret) and thinking about the upcoming fly fishing season.

From hospital staff that comes across as a mix of Scrubs and Gray’s Anatomy (“Think he’s gonna puke?” “What? You takin’ bets?”) to fly fishing teachers who seem almost oblivious to the world around them (“He could line a rod in about two seconds and have the line whirling about, seemingly unaware of the people darting for cover around him, within about ten seconds”), Chiesa recounts his time on the Wound Floor and reminisces about a passion of his that has rewarded the lives of many before him.

Wound Floor is novella-length and also contains an excerpt from Chiesa's upcoming, Stella Sang.
